Trattoria Roma, Johnstone

This is a very popular wee gem of a place, tucked away under a modern, Italian-style "loggia" in Johnstone's High Street, only 5 minutes' walk from the railway station. Despite the fact that its 'a la carte' prices are fairly hefty, it offers diners exceedingly good value £5.95 lunchtime and £9.95 two course pre-theatre menus. I would recommend either of these as a way of trying out the place. We are regular diners here, and they even offer their special two-course lunch deal on a Saturday, so it's ideal for Saturday shoppers. Soups are home-made: minestrone always available! The staff members are friendly, the food is good and the prices are reasonable. What else could one ask? Call in advance to make sure it's not booked for a private function, though, as it is popular for these too from time to time. Trattoria Roma, 12 High Street Johnstone. Tel 01505 348006
